What if Harry Potter had been sorted into Slytherin?
What if the Sorting Hat hadn't listened to Harry? We analyze how the story would change if Harry Potter had been a Slytherin: his relationship with Draco, Snape, and the rise of Voldemort.
🐍 The Destiny That Could Have Been
Hello, wizards and witches! Welcome to The Pensieve. Today we are going to explore one of the most fascinating “What If” scenarios in the entire saga. We all remember the moment when Harry, under the Sorting Hat, whispered: “Not Slytherin, not Slytherin”. But what would have happened if the Hat had ignored his request and shouted: SLYTHERIN!?
🤝 Friends or Foes? The Relationship with Draco Malfoy
If Harry had ended up in the snake’s house, his first encounter with Draco Malfoy on the Hogwarts Express would have had a very different outcome. Instead of rejecting his hand, Harry would have found himself forced to navigate Slytherin politics alongside him. Would they have become best friends, forming the most powerful duo in school, or would the internal rivalry for leadership have been even more fierce?
🧪 Snape and the Unexpected Favoritism
Severus Snape would have found himself in an extremely uncomfortable position. As Head of Slytherin House, he would have to protect Harry while, at the same time, dealing with the resentment caused by seeing James Potter’s face in the colors of his own house. Probably, Snape would have been a much more present mentor, though just as stern, trying to keep Harry away from dark influences from within.
🌑 Voldemort's Influence
As a Slytherin, Harry would have direct access to the children of the Death Eaters. This could have made it easier for Voldemort to try to recruit or manipulate him. However, it also means that Harry would know the secrets of his enemies much better than as a Gryffindor. The war would not have been fought only on battlefields, but in the corridors and common room of Slytherin.
⚖️ Would He Still Be the Hero?
Being in Slytherin doesn’t make you evil, but it does enhance ambition and cunning. Harry would still have his big heart, but his methods for defeating Voldemort would have been much more calculating and pragmatic. Perhaps he wouldn’t have needed so much luck, but more strategy.
❓ What Do You Think?
Do you think Harry would have defeated Voldemort faster as a Slytherin, or would he have turned to the dark side? Let us know in the comments or on our social media. At The Pensieve, we love debating these theories!
